I've always loved lava lamps and the kitsch retro-futurist style they're usually associated with, so I decided to paint my own pop art version. Some of the photos show the painting next to my own purple lava lamp inspiration.

As usual with my work, the effect I'm aiming for is a bold and graphic pop-art aesthetic rather than straight realism, although with the addition of the corner of the room background and shadows, this piece feels more realistic than my usual work. However I hope that the strong purple, yellow and pink colour palette retains my usual joyful impact. The end results is a painting that would brighten any room in your house, much like the lava lamp itself.

It is painted in acrylics and Posca paint pen on a stretched cotton canvas that has a cardboard backing, and so is ready to hang.
